Death Drive is a Brooklyn-based samplegaze band blending noise-rock, indietronica, and shoegaze into a sound that feels electric, immersive, and slightly unstable in the best way. Founders Raja Mazhar and Evan Weinstein formed the project with a focus on pushing beyond the conventions of their local scene, using sampling as a core compositional element across their work. Death Drive’s sound sits between control and chaos, balancing disorientation with a sense of familiarity.
The project began in 2019 with the release of their first mixtape, Handle With Care. Mazhar and Weinstein realized the potential in translating their work into a distinct live set, built around live sampling and a hybrid band setup, where each track blends into one seamless, high-energy show. This quickly became central to the band’s identity, building a following ahead of their next release, Our Eternal Cloud (2022). In 2024, the band was joined by drummer Grace Goss and guitarist Hiroki Jurgens, recording a split EP with producer Yurusu, A Bit Closer To Heaven. Their most recent releases include singles “Let The Wound Heal” featuring Tori Hall (2025) and “Make Your Mind Up” (2026).
Death Drive has performed extensively across New York’s underground scene, playing DIY spaces as well as some of the city’s most well known venues–including Baby’s All Right, Trans-Pecos, and The Broadway. With out-of-state shows, tours, and new releases underway, Death Drive continues to evolve, pushing their use of sampling into new sounds and structures.
